SIGHTS ON GOLD...
Terek Prepares For The 2008 Campaign
2004 Olympian; 2-time USA Outdoor runner-up (’05, ’07); 3-time
USA Indoor Heptathlon champ (’03, ’04, ’07); 2-time
USA Indoor Heptathlon runner-up (’05, ’06); 2002 NCAA runner-up;
2001 Big 10 decathlon, PV and indoor heptathlon champion, Paul Terek begins
his mission to capture Olympic gold in Beijing this summer.

PAUL HAS HAD A TREMENDOUS CAREER
Terek earned the third USA Indoor combined events championship of his
career in 2007, and followed that up with a runner-up finish in the decathlon
at the USA Outdoor Championships in Indianapolis. With his runner-up finishes
at the 2005 USA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, Terek proved again why
he is on of the nation's top multi-event performers. An accomplished pole
vaulter as well as decathlete, Terek added has competed at the 2003 World
Outdoor Championships, the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2005 World
Outdoor Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Terek set a personal best
in the decathlon by 234 points at the 2003 USA Outdoor Championships,
where he placed third with 8,275 points. That career-best performance
came despite the fact that he jumped on borrowed poles in the pole vault,
managing a clearance of only 5.20m/17-0.75. Terek had opened his season
in at MultiStars in Desanzano, Italy, but his poles never arrived…when
they finally were sent back to him in California, every pole was broken,
so he borrowed poles for USA Outdoors…Terek set his current PR of
8,312 at the 2004 Olympic Trials. He looks forward to topping this feat
in 2008.
PAUL'S PROFILE
Born and raised in Livonia Michigan, Paul excelled at athletics from an
early age. This continued on through his teenage years where Paul's athletic
dominance began to come into full swing. While attending Livonia Franklin
High School, Paul was an 8 time varsity letter winner and received All
State honors in both football and in track & field. Although Paul
excelled at all sports he participated in, he was especially successful
in track & field. Paul posted breath taking results in several events
and was unstoppable in the pole vault. This type of success allowed Paul
to further his track & field career at Michigan State University.
During his four year career at Michigan State, Paul excelled both academically
and athletically, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering and shattering several records. Among these are school records
for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault, the decathlon, the heptathlon
and the javelin. In addition, he holds the Big Ten decathlon and indoor
pole vault records. After graduating in 2002, Paul decided to further
his athletic career by joining the World's Greatest Athlete Decathlon
Club. Since that time, Paul has continued to excel in the decathlon. He
has posted a personal record of 5.70m (18' 10.25") in the pole vault,
finished 8th in the US indoor pole vault, won the National Championship
in combined events and placed 3rd at the National Championships in the
decathlon. He was also a member of Team USA at the World Championships.
In July, Paul qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games held in Athens,
Greece by placing third at the US National Meet. He is currently ranked
3rd in the US and 9th in the world in the decathlon.
